With perfect weather conditions, the 2022 Town of Brookhaven Lifeguard Run-Swim-Run was held this morning at Cedar Beach. Nine swimmers participated in the TVSC heat of the Run-Swim-Run. In the swimming leg, the leading group with Alyssa, Mila and Liam did not study the Run-Swim-Run course well enough and missed swimming around the next to last buoy. Day 1 – Thursday Kate Sommerstad got the first TVSC points of the meet by finishing 9th place in the 800 Freestyle with a time of 9:14.58. The relay team of Bella Dimaculangan, Kate Sommerstad, Olivia Schlegel and Emily Herr broke the 800 Free Relay Record by clocking an 8:45.46, finishing 6th place overall. In the last qualifying long course meet of the long course season 74 TVSC athletes raced 200 times and swam 148 best times -- 74%. Total time improvement 446 seconds, or more than 7 minutes. Earlier in the week the weather forecast for Friday morning was rainy and cool. Yesterday's forecast cloudy and cool. Surpringly, this morning it was sunny and pleasant, or perfect open water swimming conditions for the first USA-Swimming sanctioned open water event at Cedar Beach. 44 TVSC swimmers competed, most first time open water swimmers, and all did very well. Another perfect late afternoon at Cedar Beach. 36 TVSC swimmers and Coach Kate did the open water practice
32 TVSC swimmers showed up for the first open water practice of the summer ar Cedar Beach. The water temperature was a cool, ~70 degrees, but with the bright sun it was bearable. The water temperature will increase every day. The Junior 1 swimmers swam one lap around the Cedar Beach East swimming area and most Junior 2s swam two laps with Coach Kate. Town of Brookhaven lifeguard and TVSC coach, Rita Chen, helped guide the swimmers on a surf board and another lifeguard assisted the swimmers in a kayak....
